Short answer: micro1's application includes a conversational interview with its AI recruiter, Zara. micro1 offers free practice interviews, and certification makes you eligible for relevant projects. It does not guarantee immediate placement. Below is what micro1 says officially, followed by one candidate's experience.

Last checked: 16 October 2026.

What is the micro1 AI interview?

micro1's Experts page lists four steps: 1. Apply for opportunities, 2. Take the AI interview, 3. Get onboarded, 4. Start earning (micro1 Experts: micro1.ai/experts).

Its official interview guide describes a conversational interview with Zara. It lists role-specific technical and scenario questions, coding challenges for technical roles, and a human data exercise for annotator roles (micro1 AI Interview Guide: micro1.ai/ai-interview-guide). These are question categories, not a fixed script for every applicant.

The official pages we reviewed do not establish one universal real-interview length, scoring threshold or proctoring setup. Check the instructions in your own invitation. The practice duration below does not establish the length of your actual assessment.

How to practise: micro1's free practice interviews

micro1's Interview Prep page lets you choose a role, take a free AI practice interview and receive feedback (micro1.ai/interview-prep). On 16 October 2026, the role cards were labeled 18 mins interview and listed three skills. For example, Accountant listed financial reporting, reconciliation expertise and GAAP knowledge.

That length applies to the public practice sessions. Your real interview may differ.

What one candidate reported (first-hand account)

A UX Designer applicant published a first-hand write-up on aitrainer.work on 4 September 2026, updated 1 October. This describes one non-coding application; it is not micro1 policy or our own interview experience. The author reports:

  • Two written application questions that overlapped with the live interview's focus areas.
  • An optional practice run of about 15 minutes in the interview interface.
  • A real interview labeled 28 minutes, with five focus areas shown on screen.
  • Questions displayed as text and spoken aloud, with camera and screen sharing on throughout.
  • Zara treating thinking aloud as a completed answer and moving on.
  • A question being rephrased toward an underlying skill when the candidate lacked the specific experience.
  • Talent-pool review the next day and certification the following day.

These timings and device requirements are that candidate's report. Follow your own invitation rather than assuming the same format or turnaround.

How to prepare

  1. Choose a role and core skill you can demonstrate. micro1's official interview guide recommends focusing the evaluation and using its practice tool (micro1.ai/ai-interview-guide).
  2. Use the free practice interview for your role. Rehearse with the listed skills and review the feedback (Interview Prep: micro1.ai/interview-prep).
  3. Revisit your written application answers. One candidate found they overlapped with the live focus areas (candidate account). Prepare to explain your reasoning in your own words.
  4. Give deliberate, complete answers. The same candidate reported losing a turn by thinking aloud. Use practice to check how turn-taking feels; this is one person's observation, not an official rule about pauses or a guaranteed amount of thinking time.
  5. Check the setup requested in your invitation. Test your microphone, camera and any required screen sharing in advance, with a reliable connection and a quiet room. The candidate above reported camera and screen sharing throughout their interview.
  6. Prepare concrete examples from your own work. Practise explaining a decision, a trade-off and how you evaluated the result. Read the listing's requirements and eligibility before starting.

Use your own experience and follow the assessment's rules on notes, tools and assistance. This guide covers preparation and public question categories; it does not reproduce live interview questions.

After the interview: certification and waiting

micro1's official interview guide describes a real-time certification result and an option to request feedback if you are not certified (micro1.ai/ai-interview-guide). Certification and assignment to paid work are separate steps.

From the Experts FAQ (micro1.ai/experts):

  • Certification makes you eligible for matching projects; it does not guarantee immediate placement.
  • Selected experts receive an email with next steps and onboarding details.
  • You can check your application status in the talent dashboard.
  • Updating your profile and certifying additional skills can broaden the opportunities you may be considered for.
  • Unmatched profiles can remain active for future projects.

We have not verified a universal review deadline. Follow the status and instructions in your account. If you're certified but getting no work, see Rejected or no tasks? Do this.

Who can apply (eligibility)

micro1 says it hires globally but cannot hire residents of: Afghanistan, Belarus, China, Cuba, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Hong Kong, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macao, Myanmar, North Korea, Russia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, Ukraine, Yemen and Ethiopia (micro1 Experts FAQ: micro1.ai/experts, checked 16 October 2026).

Individual roles can add requirements. Remote work does not establish worldwide eligibility; check the listing before investing time in screening.

Is the micro1 interview a scam? How to stay safe

Zara is part of micro1's documented interview process. That does not authenticate every message using its name.

  • micro1 lists @micro1.ai, @micro1.io and @micro1.co as its official email domains (Experts FAQ: micro1.ai/experts). Check the full sender address; a display name alone is not verification.
  • Apply through micro1's job portal, jobs.micro1.ai, or the verified invite below. Confirm unexpected messages through the support address published on its Experts page: support@micro1.ai.
  • Never pay someone to secure an interview or role. Independently verify unexpected requests through micro1 support before sharing sensitive information.
