AI training jobs by country: what “remote” means on Mercor and micro1

By AITasks.live editorial

Published Updated Sources reviewed

Short answer: A remote AI training role can still restrict where you live or work. Start with the platform's country policy, then check the specific role, onboarding requirements and written offer. A supported country, completed interview or working payment account does not establish that a project is available to you.

Country examples below describe policies checked on 19 October 2026 and rechecked before publication on 30 October 2026. They are not currently available jobs.

Check four things before completing an assessment

Use this checklist to separate questions that are easy to mix together:

CheckQuestion to answerWhat to record
Platform coverageDoes the platform support people in my location?Policy URL and date checked
Role requirementsDoes this particular opportunity accept my location and background?Countries, language, credentials and time-zone requirements stated in the listing
Onboarding and paymentCan I complete the requested identity, contract and payout steps accurately?Requirements from my own onboarding flow
Confirmed workHave I actually been selected and told when to begin?Written offer and project instructions

Treat a missing location field as not specified. It is a reason to ask a question, rather than assume worldwide eligibility. Save the listing title and URL so support can answer about the right opportunity.

Mercor: supported regions and payment coverage

Mercor's Supported Countries & Regions policy says it does not engage contractors located outside its supported regions. Its separate payment-country documentation also describes limits on onboarding and issuing contracts. Check both against your location.

These are dated policy examples, not a complete eligibility list:

LocationFinding on 19 October 2026What this establishes
Portugal, India and the PhilippinesAppear in both sources reviewedListed platform/payment coverage; a role still needs checking
Kenya and PakistanAbsent from the supported-regions list and explicitly unsupported in the payment documentationDo not assume Mercor can onboard you from these locations

Use the live policy pages when you apply. We have not copied a full country list or turned these examples into promises of acceptance, project availability or a particular rate.

For EU-based applicants, Mercor's contractor guidance says contractors must be allowed to provide freelance services in their country of residence and meet applicable registration requirements. Mercor says it does not sponsor visas or provide local employment contracts within the EU. That is an EU-specific statement; it does not determine your personal immigration or tax position.

micro1: global recruitment has residence exclusions

micro1's Experts FAQ says it recruits globally while excluding residents of named countries and regions. Check its “Do you hire globally?” answer as well as the individual role. Being outside the exclusions does not establish a suitable project or guarantee selection.

The same FAQ says certification makes you eligible for consideration for relevant projects and does not guarantee immediate placement. If you have passed screening but have no work, see what to do when there are no tasks.

Read the role, not just the word “remote”

Before starting a long assessment, look for answers to these questions in the current listing or application:

  • Does it specify residence, the country where work must be performed, or a particular region?
  • Does it require a language level, professional licence or relevant experience?
  • Are meetings, working hours or time-zone overlap specified?
  • Is it recruiting for a project, or collecting profiles for possible future work?
  • Is the displayed compensation hourly, per task, per project or annual? Which currency is used?

These are questions to verify, not requirements that apply to every role. If an answer is missing or contradictory, ask the platform about that listing before relying on it.

For example, imagine a listing headed “Remote” whose description says “residents of Country A.” Treat that description as a location restriction, not an invitation to apply from anywhere. This is an invented reading example, not a current Mercor or micro1 opening.

Keep pay separate from eligibility. A rate shown for one role or location is not evidence of what another applicant will earn. Our AI training pay guide explains how to compare advertised amounts without treating them as earnings.

Residence, citizenship and travel are separate questions

If you are a citizen of one country and live in another, give accurate answers to each field instead of choosing whichever location looks more favourable. Check whether the question asks about citizenship, residence, work location or work authorisation.

Before working from another country, ask the project team to confirm the destination, dates, any project restrictions and necessary account or payment updates. Get an answer about your own assignment. The sources reviewed for this guide do not establish blanket permission to work while travelling for either platform.

This also applies to a move between two supported countries. Platform coverage alone does not answer whether your existing assignment can continue after a move.

Keep your identity and connection accurate

Mercor's identity-verification instructions describe mandatory government-ID and selfie checks through Persona. They also explain that routed traffic can make the verification flow detect the wrong country. Complete the official flow using your real details; ask support if the detected country is wrong.

Mercor's Account Security and Conduct policy requires regular residential or mobile connections and says VPN, proxy and anonymizer sign-ins are blocked. Follow the platform's instructions rather than trying to mask your location. Its narrowly described project-tool VPN instructions do not establish permission to bypass country restrictions.

For micro1, the public interview guide describes a Zara interview with questions based on the chosen role. Its statement that interviews are available on demand does not override the residence exclusions in the Experts FAQ. Prepare for the role you actually meet: see our micro1 interview guide.

A short message to clarify an unclear listing

Use this template with the platform's official support channel. It is an original example:

I currently live in [country] and would perform the work from [country]. I am interested in [role title and listing URL]. Does this opportunity accept applicants in my location? Are there additional location, time-zone or onboarding requirements I should check before completing screening?

If travel is relevant, add the proposed destination and dates. Avoid sending identity documents or banking details in an initial eligibility question.

FAQ

Does a remote AI training job accept applicants from every country?

No. Check the platform's geographic policy and the particular role. A remote label or an application form you can open is not proof of worldwide eligibility.

Can I apply to Mercor from Portugal, India or the Philippines?

Those countries appear in the supported-regions and payment sources reviewed on 19 October 2026. That establishes listed coverage, not acceptance for every role. Recheck the policies and current listing before applying.

Does passing the micro1 interview guarantee work in my country?

No. Its Experts FAQ says certification does not guarantee immediate placement. Residence restrictions, project requirements and availability still matter.

Can I work while travelling abroad?

Ask your project team to confirm your proposed destination and dates before working there. This guide found no universal travel approval in the sources reviewed.

What should I do if a listing does not name eligible countries?

Treat the location as not specified. Send the role title and URL to official support and ask about your actual residence and work location. Keep any clarification with your application notes.
